Brunswick: 100 Years of Memories (1990) Barger, Willard (1916- ) Honored 1985 Willard “Pickett” Barger’s political career of 20 years on the Brunswick Town Council launched many community activities. He served as president of the Recreation Commission and supervised city parks for many years, helping to establish Little Lcague and managing both Little League and Babe Ruth teams. He was a founder, director, and president of Senior Citizens and enthusiastically promoted Brunswick’s shopping center. As a charter member of the Brunswick History Commission, he was vice-president from 1980 to 1985. Frederick County Jaycees recognized him as an outstanding senior citizen of 1983-84.

Mr. WILLARD WASHINGTON "Picket" BARGER, 81, of 3254 Ithaca St., Port Charlotte, Fl., formerly of Brunswick, died Monday, June 9, at Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte. Born Feb. 22, 1916 in Brunswick, he was the son of the late Edward and Bertha May Virts Barger.

He was the husband of Mildred Corun Barger.

Mr. Barger was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Brunswick. He worked for Southern Railways and B&O Railroad for 35 years. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Navy. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 191, A.F.&A. Masons of Brunswick and Steadman-Keenan Post 96, American Legion of Brunswick. He served on the Brunswick City Council for 20 years in the capacity of councilman and mayor pro tem.

Surviving in addition to his wife are one daughter, Pam Stokes; one son, Larry Barger; one stepdaughter, Melanie Corun; one stepson, Ray Corun; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia Elizabeth Barger, in 1975; and one brother, Bernard Barger, in 1996.

Services were held at the Bethany Lutheran Church, Brunswick; interment was in Park Heights Cemetery, Brunswick; arrangments were by the John T. Williams Funeral Home, Brunswick.
