Summary
The history of the house at 421 East Potomac Street by Dr Wayne Allgaier:
• The state tax records indicate that the house was built in 1910. From my experience, that date was assigned to many houses in Brunswick, and may not be accurate, although it is approximate. • I cannot identify who was living in the house in 1910 (if it even existed then). • 1920: John W. & Jennie (aka Jane) A. Nelson were living at the home on East Potomac Street (then known as “High Street," with their three sons. John was a conductor on the RR. • 1930: Jennie is now widowed. Living with her in the home are her son Lawrence and his wife Anna (married 10 years previously) and their 3 children. He is a clerk on the RR. • 1940: Jennie has died, and Lawrence, Anna, and their three children are living in the home. Anna’s widowed mother is also living with them. • There is a void in the public records between 1940 and 1970, so I’m not sure about the ownership of the home during those years. Specifically, I’m not sure how Thomas West Claggett Jr. became involved in the ownership. • Lawrence died in 1973, and Anna died in 1984. They are buried at St. Peter’s in Harpers Ferry. • In 1990, the house was sold by Thomas L. Dorsey to David and Patricia Staton. • In 2014, the Statons sold the house to Ms Levri.
