In 1851 Captain Short bought a home in Brunswick that later became referred to as the “Musgrove Place.” This property was later used as headquarters by Brigadier General Alfred Pleasanton, Commander-in-Chief of the Army of the Potomac Cavalry Corps, and by General George McClellan as he re-equipped his forces after Gettysburg. The first floor was used as staff headquarters and the lawn was covered with tents to accommodate prisoners of war.
