Floyd Goetz was born in Hagerstown in 1935; his family moved to the Brownsville area in 1945.  His father bought out a tinsmith in Brunswick, and Floyd worked with him doing roofs and guttering.  He enlisted in the Army in 1956, becoming a signals man.  He taught electronics and eventually became an instructor at Fort Belvoir.  He was in Vietnam for a year but upon returning was put in charge of the entire engineering signals school at Belvoir.  He retired as an E6 Master First Sergeant.  He and his wife Eileen settled in Eileen’s childhood home on Maple Avenue, where they live today.  Mr. Goetz is active in Brunswick’s veterans’ organizations, having served as the VFW’s Post Commander and Quartermaster.  He was instrumental in the revitalization of Park Heights Cemetery, bringing the abandoned ten-acre cemetery back to being a beautiful part of the town and a working cemetery that is once again operating on secure financial footing.  He was also part of the group that worked to improve Brunswick’s Veterans Park on A Street, installing beautiful memorials and plantings in the boulevard park.
