On March 4th, the Brunswick American Legion Family had the honor to host a luncheon for our National ALA President, Diane Duscheck. Maryland is the 4th state she has visited in the past 2 weeks and Post 96 was one of her stops. Ms. Duscheck has been a member of the ALA for 56 years and taught 7th and 8th grade science for 34 years until retiring in 2014. She was very interested in the history of Brunswick and was interested in the history of our American Legion Post as well. Members of the ALA, SAL, and TAL traveled from various cities in Maryland to welcome Ms. Duscheck to the state of Maryland. These members included 2 Past National ALA Presidents, 5 Past Department ALA Presidents and other ALA and TAL Department officers and members. Our very own Rosie the Riveter, Ruth Staples, was in attendance as well. Guest speakers were George Bath and Mayor Jeff Snoots. City Council members Wayne Allgaier and Angel White were also in attendance. Mayor Snoots presented a proclamation to her and declared that March 4th was “Diane Duscheck Day” in Brunswick.

During her visit to Maryland, she also toured American Legions in Berlin and Greenbelt. Other tours were to Perry Point VA Hospital and John Hopkins Children’s center. She raised the American flag at Fort McHenry. She witness a Nationalization ceremony in Baltimore and attended a session at the State House in Annapolis. Her 4 day visit was packed with visits to many cities in Maryland and the Department of MD ALA was proud to show off our Maryland Pride.
