Business 1920 to 1960

Letter from Doris K. Barker (Mrs. C. Wayne Barker), Myrtle Beach, SC, August 27, 2011

This is a picture of my parents store, "Kelley's Candy Kitchen" which was located on Potomac Street in Brunswick from 1929 - 1931. I was around 2 1/2 years old when they closed the store. My dad had allowed ice cream to be bought on credit, thus the store was not profitable, especially during the depression.

Beyond the lattice work were ice cream tables and chairs. My dad is standing behind the soda fountain bar. You will notice the glass candy cabinets on the left side of the picture.
