This photo is from 1998 and shows the members and coaches of the BHS Boys Tennis Team. Despite the fact that the Boys Tennis Team was young, the members showed that they had a very competitive spirit. Although their record did not show it, the team worked very hard and accomplished a number of their goals for the season. As team member Alex Porter stated “We learned a lot this season to prepare us for the future.” I think many on this team could have related to the following points about being on a high school tennis team: - The sport was probably not the most popular to play at school, nor was it the most funded. - Team bus rides and dinners were incredible bonding experiences. - The wind was either one’s best friend or one’s worst enemy depending on the direction it was blowing. - A freshly tightened racket was a thing of beauty. - Talking to oneself on the court was socially acceptable. - Callouses upon callouses upon callouses. - Serving an ace and wanting to do a little touchdown dance, but as a tennis player, and not a football player, one needed to remain classy. Bottom Row (L to R) - John Csordas, Alex Porter, Wes Rowh, Nathan Wachter, Dave Roberts, Middle Row – Matt Ollry, P.J. Hoopengardner, Steve Moss, Greg Moser, Jason Stanczyk, Ryan Beardsley, Chris Moser Top Row – Coach McDuffie, Coach Haberline, Shannon Kenney, Harold Capps, Nathan Higgins, Robert Nailor, Greg Moore, Pat Smith, Coach Lee Zumbach Photo courtesy Jon Evans
