James Robert Castle The building was originally a school for the Petersville district.

Crystal Carey James Robert Castle ~It was a 1 room school house with a wood stove and Buck Compher started serving customers while it was like that and kept adding on ,Josie use to tell Me stories of her moving to the USA New Jersey from Italy and how they progressed through the years. Her recipes and his business sense.

Eleanor Kerr My parents called it Mama Compher’s. I remember the inside well.

Linda Moss The first pizza I ever ate was at Compher's, and going there as a family was always fun. The spaghetti was awesome. Compher's was truly a family place - always a treat to see the Comphers and other local families who were there to enjoy a meal. It was a small town, Brunswick experience that I still treasure.

Lisa Cornelius Soudry So many Comphers memories!

  • Mr. Compher was always behind the bar and Mrs. Compher in the kitchen
  • I remember that old cash register
  • We would take our own pot and get it filled with spaghetti and meatballs to take home
  • I remember standing at the jukebox and choosing songs with Aaron
  • Running in and buying Daddy’s Pal Mal cigarettes from Mr. and Mrs. Compher

Bonnie Jones We had our rehearsal dinner there. We chose Compher’s because we spent a lot of time there... eating and planning our future. My anniversary is this Saturday, April 18. We will be celebrating our 50th anniversary!

Nicole Smith That is my child hood. That was where my life began. My parents met there ans raised us there for awhile. I miss my aunt joe and uncle Mike. I was the lil girl who ran through the restaurant

Amy Vinar I grew up in Frederick and now live in Brunswick, but we always came to Comphers (probably once a week!) for delicious food. My parents also always gave my sister and I quarters for the juke box, but we had to play a song they loved, "Islands in the Stream", every time. My dad just passed away and he would always say that he missed the food there!

Debbie Brawner Best place for spaghetti and meatballs. It was a tradition in our town back in the day. It was a great place to see family and friends. It was always busy. We need another place like that for family dinners. Mr. And Mrs. Compher were so friendly. When my father Red Russell would go crabbing in Calvert County (he would always bring back fresh soft shell crabs back and sell them to Mr. Compher.

Ann Elizabeth Beauchamp This was my 1st job when I was 14yo. I was hired as a pizza maker/dishwasher for 1.50 an hour. I worked every evening T-F and all day Saturday. I helped every Saturday to peel garlic for the spaghetti sauce which Josie made from scratch in huge pots every Saturday. I learned how to make homemade spaghetti sauce, manicotti, and lasagna from Josie. The Compher's treated me like family and I vacationed with them to New Jersey to meet all of Josie's family. I worked there until I was 17. I have so many memories of the wonderful people I worked with, the regular customers, and of course the Compher's. The motel's were always rented and some renter's were employees

Joan Hale My family would go to Comphers for dinner on special occasions, and my high school friends and I would go there for pizza after basketball games. The most memorable time was when my husband proposed to me!

Chris Ayres Houck My grandparents would take us there for dinner after a day of shopping. It was always a special treat because we never went out to eat. Meatballs and spaghetti, pizza or hamburgers and french fries, it was all wonderful!

Collette Sigler Hawes When I was sick as a child my mom would go to Comphers for their awesome pizza because that is all I wanted to eat when ill. They placed onions on top of the pizza. I love it.

Andy Williams Their spaghetti and meatballs was awesome and after high school games we use to go there for pizza

Doris Garner That was my first job. I started out as a dishwasher and ended up head cook. Joe and mike were the best. Many fine memories from there. I still have a watch they bought me and a silver dollar necklace.

Anne Claggett I waitresses there one summer a very long time ago. Great food! Lovely people!

Wendy Harrison That was my first job, I remember sitting in that kitchen hand rolling meatballs

Debbie Potts Great place to eat, we would go on the weekends occasionally and always after the Brunswick Parade

Monica Howard Routzahn The pizza the cheese could stretch a mile. Remember going in the kitchen when little and the pots and pans were so big

Angela Berry Selby When I was young, my family called this place “crossroads” and we would eat italian food there on a regular basis. I have a lot of fond memories.

Nancy Anders I ate there on my first dinner date. I don't recall his name, but we had awesome spaghetti.

Cindy Payne They sold spaghetti sauce in a jar to use at home! I loved the food

Jeanne Green Brandenburg-Smith The pizza and spaghetti..Yummy. Going in and sitting up at the bar and Mr Willie Compher was always there, ready to wait on you

Peggy Jean Lewis Loved their spaghetti. You had to take your own pot when you got spaghetti to go.

Sheila Brumage one of my best memories was when my Dad was building a house in Brunswick and my Mom would send a pan with him and he would bring it home full of spaghetti and a loaf of garlic bread. My favorite dinner!

Susan Shearer I worked there for 10 years as a waitress a lot of good memories made
