They were instrumental to the success of Compher's Crossroads Inn on old Rt. 340 in Knoxville, which was managed by Josie's husband Buck Compher. The restaurant was a popular stop on the way to or from the Charlestown races. It was renowned for its delicious Italian food, especially the spaghetti.
According to Linda Amato-Creeden: "Josie Sasso Compher's great italian cooking and hard work grew the success of this restaurant. My grandmother 'Mom' Sasso lived with them in her later years and spent her mornings in the kitchen making homemade meatballs, ravioli, lasagna, etc."
