This photo is from 1993 and shows the members of the Varsity Girls’ Basketball Team. “We had a very young and strong team” said Coach Bill Martin after the girls went to their sixth successive playoff appearance. The varsity team finished the season with a winning record of 13-9, but lost in the first round of regional playoffs to Catoctin High School. During the regular season the Roaders had beaten the Cougars once and lost to them once. Coach Martin had to look to the JV team for some help during the season. Freshmen Katie Evancho and Jessica Sowers joined the Varsity team. As Katie commented “I was nervous at first, but once I adapted to the way varsity played, I started to have fun.” A key scorer helping the team through the season was Jennifer Unger who was ranked among the top ten scorers in Frederick County. BTW – former BHS English teacher Bernard Quesada is the current principal at Catoctin HS.
