Potomac Street, taken from a different angle than we have seen before, likely in the 1920s. Some mystery. There appears to have been stairs or maybe a red carpet on the right side of the theater. There once was a basement with a bowling alley and pool room until around 1931. The bowling alley was located in the rear of the basement, but the stairs may have led to a hallway or tunnel. Potomac Street, which had been deteriorating for years following its closure in 1962. A theater at this location dated back to a 1912 lease at the Frederick County Courthouse. Hard to tell what the event was. 2) We've seen similar photos of this latticed stage at both the old Imperial Theater and a makeshift stage in a community space at the bottom of W. For years in the 1950s and '60s, the Charles Harrington family decorated a huge pine tree in their yard at 605 N. Maple Avenue where neighborhood children performed “The Christmas Story,” recited the “Night Before Christmas,” and sang carols.
