Brunswick Mayor:

Mayor Jeff Snoots Mayor: 2016 to Present (2018)

My favorite memory growing up in Brunswick: Some of my favorite memories would have to be the growing up around the trains, the busy downtown area. Buying penny candy at Mills confectionary. One small bag of penny candy went along way. My first job, bagging and delivering groceries at Roelkey’s market and later Campbells market. The great festivities at the old fire hall. Watching the stars enter the back-door stage area from my grandmother’s back porch. Stars like Roy Clark, Guy Lombardo. I was too young to remember Patsy Cline. My grandmother’s house was on the corner of Brunswick Street and Delaware Ave. Her father built that house in the 1900’s. Interesting fact about my term as Mayor so far in my first year: (accomplishments) Keeping my promise to refurbish, rebuild, and update our city infrastructure. Sitting aside funds in the capital improvement budget, re-established after taking office. Beginning to replace the 8 miles of pipe from Yourtee Springs. (2000 feet completed to date) 20% of the city’s water comes from there. Revised and implemented the city’s purchasing policies. Revised and implemented the city’s pay scales and levels. Increasing pay scales for our police department, retaining officers. Revised all employee position descriptions and completed reviews for all employees. Began process to renovate/add to sports complex. Planning to expand two ballfields. Reinstated the city finance/utilities committees.

Upgraded the video and sound system for the council chambers, updated the city phone service and IT equipment. Completed city water meter audit. Identified issues and addressing. Completed the Mini Golf course and dog park. Demolishing the 811 Potomac Street property and beginning the design and bid process. Reinstated I&I smoke testing/results. Never followed through by previous Adm. Renewed/re-negotiated campsite contract with River and Trail, better revenue for the city. Upgraded and modernized All IT functions throughout the city. Upgraded “channel 99” broadcast.

What is my priority as Mayor? Continue to upgrade and replace our city’s infrastructure. Yourtee Springs is the main priority. Sidewalk replacement. Safe routes to school sidewalk replacement. Applied for grant money, awaiting good news hopefully this month. Continue street repaving. Downtown revitalization. This is the hardest task I have come against so far. Possible Arts and entertainment for downtown. Recruiting businesses willing to locate downtown.

What I enjoy about being Mayor: Representing my hometown! Talking and listening to our residents. Having good productive conversation about goals, plans, visions for our city. Good and bad. Enjoy spearheading and/or being a part of carrying out and accomplishing the projects alongside the council members and our citizens.
