Rev Edward Elliott Burgess 1872 – 1933, HC 1976

Brunswick: 100 Years of Memories (1990) Burgess, Rev. Edward Elliott (1872-1933) Honored 1976 Rev. Edward Elliot Burgess was rector of St. Mark’s Parish, which included Grace Episcopal Church, from 1915 until his death. Through his direction and inspiration Grace Church on A Street was built, providing the town with its only structure in the Gothic style of architecture. The following quotation from the BLADE TIMES of November 2,1944, capsulizes what this community thought of Mr. Burgess: “In the town, through the neighboring villages and . . . in the remotest parts of this and neighboring counties his benign influence has been felt and his name . . . revered far and wide. People of every creed, or of none, turned to him in their sorrow and their joys . . . Where he ministered . . . he was affectionately claimed as everybody’s rector.”
