Summary

This photo is from the 1988-89 school year and shows the student members of the BHS It’s Academic Team and its advisor Chuck Thomas.

Since as long I can remember Brunswick had an “It’s Academic” team, first under the guidance of Mr. Chuck Thomas and then later Mr. Lou Eskuchen.

Originally, each year the Brunswick team was invited to compete on the TV show against teams from all over Maryland, but eventually the BHS team competed only at the local level. I do not remember what year this changed came about.

However, now in its 38th year the FCPS Academic Tournament has brought excitement as students from the various high schools in the county go head-to-head in putting their knowledge and recall to the test.

After all teams had competed in final matches, the top three high-scoring teams moved forward to partake in the county championship until a winner is declared that evening. At that time they are awarded the county’s Academic Tournament trophy which their school gets to showcase for a year.

This school year the BHS team won the countywide Academic Tournament, achieving their third win in the tournament’s history.
