Summary

The bridge on MD 478 between Knoxville and Brunswick, closed since February opened November 6, 2019 this week, according to the State Highway Administration. The bridge replacement is complete, although landscaping work could continue into the spring. The bridge, originally built in 1925, was one of twelve bridges in Frederick County that the State of Maryland declared structurally deficient in 2015. The $5.5 million project replaced the old bridge with a new one that has two 11-foot-wide lanes, 5-foot shoulders on each side and a sidewalk on the north side. According to SHA, the bridge is used by 3,300 vehicles a day.
