Summary

Campaign ad for Charles E. Smith, who served as a Democrat in the Maryland State House of Delegates from 1973-81. As a January 25, 2018 article in the Brunswick Citizen noted, Charlie was hailed as a "whiz kid" when he served as an aide to then 6th District Congressman Goodloe E. Byron (D-MD) after Byron won election to the seat in 1970.

The son of the late Joe and Zettie Smith, Charlie retired from politics to become a full-time businessman in what was first known as Smith's Heating & Air Conditioning and is now Thompson-BEST HVAC.

Smith is a Republican today, but considers himself a centrist. In the Citizen interview, he said "There was no party in the middle I could join. I'd prefer to join the 'Common Sense Party' but we don't have one of those yet."
