Jim Eury, photographed in front of Kaplon's, date unknown. 1960s?

Mr. Eury farmed for merchant William B. Wenner on the last 25 acres of the original C.F. Wenner farm in Brunswick, MD. This farm once spanned over 500 acres in the early-20th century, extending from the top of N. Maple Avenue to the north shore of the Potomac River. Much of that property was once owned by Leonard Smith, who is widely acknowledged as the founder of the town of Berlin, now known as Brunswick.

Mr. Eury and his son Charles "Buckskin" Eury ran the last working farm in Brunswick, which operated until the early 1970s. The dairy farm provided a source of meat, milk and produce for Bill Wenner's grocery stores on Potomac Street and Wenner's Hill, which he ran from the early 1920s until his death in 1959.

Smoketown History (Brunswick, Md.) Buckskin Eury took over from his dad in running the farm in the late 1950s and '60s. Bub farmed for the Shafer's around the same time when that farm was on Petersville Rd. where Rt 17 is today.
