This photo is from the 1994 BHS Yearbook and shows the advisor and members of the Future Homemakers of America. Seeking to expand the traditional goals of the FHA, faculty advisor, Mrs. Lenzo and FHA President Denise Phelps came up with new ideas about how to help the less fortunate in the Brunswick area. Club members stayed afterschool for a potluck dinner and made Christmas wreaths for patients at a local nursing home. Building on this, the club hosted other potluck dinners and invited guest speakers to talk about topics ranging from AIDS to building self-confidence. Later in the year the club had a pool party, a picnic, and a volleyball tournament. These activities helped students to understand and appreciate the fact that one's family life at home is also interconnected with improving the community in which one lives ;=)!
