Summary

Old first grade classrooms at the current BES on Sunday, 10/23/22. Some of the memories that were written about include:

Brenton Barger My first grade teacher was Mrs. Margaret Strailman. Loved her dearly... Like a 2nd Mom! 2nd grade was Miss Talbert...not sure of spelling.... remember when she made us take a nap... she took one too! Once in a while she would have "gas"...and it would slip out. If one was misbehaving... you had to sit under her desk! Paul Lake had that distinction one day when there was a "gas leak"... LOL!!!! 3rd grade teacher was Mrs. Beverly Merriman Rhoderick. I remember her when she worked at the Cut Rate while in college. She was my first "crush". But once in her 3rd grade class.. it was "Mrs. Rhoderick"!!! (She was still so pretty).

Chris Weitzel I had Margaret Strailman, who was happy to relieve you of a loose tooth if the need arose.

Patricia Moore Snoots My class was the first one to graduate from the new Brunswick Elementary School. 1951.

Peter Wenner I had Mrs. Strailman in first grade during the 1963-64 school year. She was a tough disciplinarian, but good teacher. She ran a tight ship. My most vivid memory of that year was on November 22, 1963 when Mr. Bruchey came into the classroom and whispered something in her ear in the middle of the lesson. She then told us that President Kennedy had been shot and sent us home. Mr. Bruchey later said that Mr. Smith had deputized him to go to all the classrooms to inform the teachers.

Kathy Hale Cage We had 2 first grade teachers ... 1958 ... Mrs Cramer and can't remember the other ladies name ... I think Mrs. Cramer left midway that year to have a baby.

Lisa Moss Westfall Brenton Barger My brother Ray Martin had Mrs Strailman. He ran out of the school several times The Principal, Teachers, and Teachers Aids could not catch him. LOL 😂 Mom would have to go sit in the parking lot and watch and there he would run down B Street. Mrs. Strailman even came to a house with comic books, and candy bars trying to figure out what was wrong with my brother and come to find out Mrs. Strailman made the remark that she would keep the kids there overnight if they didn't do their work as they were misbehaving. 😂

Rhonda Wenner Renn Mrs. Zelda Virts, 1964-65. A wonderful loving teacher. She let me bring a book home to read to my mother after a few weeks of school because she was so impressed I could read! Loved her. Treated us like a second mother. I loved that she put sneakers on to go out with us for recess.

Carolyn Kline Cogle First grade...Miss Georgia Hood was my teacher....1953.

Tamara Walker I met my husband in those first grade rooms. I'd love to have a block from one of the walls. Our room was on the left at the every end of the hall.
