Brunswick Mayor:

Mayor Carroll Allen Jones Mayor 2000 to 2012

Date of Birth: June 30, 1934 Place of Birth: Winchester, VA (Memorial Hospital) Grew-up: Bluemont, VA (western Loudoun County) Middle Name: Allen

What are you are most proud of as Mayor:

Any success realized during my tenure as mayor was in large part due to the efforts and dedication of fellow elected officials, appointed officials, commission members, committee members and city staff. This acknowledgment not withstanding, the most important factor in meeting our stated objectives was the support of Brunswick residents.

Some significant/important areas of activities during the 2000-2012 time frame: (these are not shown in any particular order)

Grants: approximately $18 million awarded to the City, used to fund some 50 projects including infrastructure, recreation, police/security and energy. Thus reducing financial burden for residents. Some of these projects* will be enumerated individually Waste Water Treatment Plant* Upgrade(Enhanced Nutrient Removal) and Expansion: approximately $13 million Sidewalk Renovation* within .25 miles of train station, $265,000 East Potomac Street Sewer* upgrade, $762,000 Homeland Security* $280,000 Brunswick Heights Project* - paving and sidewalks $100,000 Campground Boat Ramp & Jetty ADA (disability) Access* $248,000 Square Corner Park* Improvements $104,000 Sports Complex Paving etc* $90,000 Safety Upgrades to Parks*$54,000 ADA Curb Ramps* $104,000 Adequate Public Facilities Ordinance enacted Annexations-growth in alignment with the principles of Smart Growth. Commercial area will provide shopping options and job opportunities Brunswick Middle School addition-City officials lobbied hard with County officials for 300 seat addition Inflow and Infiltration-reduction of storm water into sewer system @$ 430,000 Fiscally Responsible- strived to meet the needs of our residents while exercising stewardship of their money Outreach and engagement at County and State level- my active participation with the Maryland Municipal League as Chair of Frederick County Chapter for several years. Also served as District Vice President and on the statewide MML Board of Directors and the Legislative Committee. Member of various workgroups and committees at the State and County level. I encouraged City elected officials and appointed officials to be involved at the County/State Level as their participation was an asset for our community and thereby our residents.

My disappointments/failure to meet expectations: (1) unable to revitalize the downtown area, the various economic studies/recommendations not withstanding (2) expansion of commercial opportunities not realized (3) some infrastructure upgrades not completed.
