Summary

In the 1960s, you could still see outhouses like this on properties throughout the Brunswick area.

Since Mr. Kaplon always walked to and from the store on Saturdays, he may have taken this photo along Petersville Road on his way home to Rosemont.

Peter Wenner I think the location of that photo may have been the Virts house next to the Giffins on Petersville Road. I remember they had a similar looking outhouse. As I recall, the family moved in the late 1960s and the house was torn down not long afterwards.

Brenda Sheffer My grandparents had one and bathed in wash tub When my parents got married the first thing my dad did was put in a full bathroom.

Doris Kelley Barker My Pap Kelley and Aunt Ivadora had one for years. Eventually they received a commode, no vanity with water, just the kitchen sink with a pump outside—never a bathtub either. My Aunt Ivadora bathed in one of those tin venetian blind tubs, heating the water on a big old stove and this was on the corner of Walnut Street.

Terry Merriman James I grew up on Second Avenue. There were several neighbors with outhouses. I know how excited my friends were to get indoor plumbing. Yes this was in the 60s.

Sherry Stull How the life of a dog has changed.

Donna Poffinberger Thank the Lord Sherry.
