Lynn Pechuekonis, Author The 1920 hotel with all of its additions and renovations was deconstructed in 2022. All the stones were palleted and saved for reuse in the new hotel when the owners are ready to rebuild. My new book on the Hill Top History was just released by the Harpers Ferry Park Association. Title is "Among the Mountains: The Lovetts and Their Hill Top House. "

Sharon Galleher My grandmother won a stay with her family through a contest back in 1938 I believe. I have the diary she kept and she writes of it and even mentions names of staff, guests etc from what I recall (I haven’t read it for awhile) she lived in Mount Rainier at the time.

Sharon Galleher The year was 1940, I’m not sure what contest she had entered because she was known for winning many prizes as she enter contests writing jingles or tag lines etc. Her name was Goldie Goodhart Widder Gray and came from Gettysburg but settled in Mt Rainer Md. From what I have been told she won first prize which was for 2 people to spend 2 weeks at Hilltop House but the accommodated her with a 1 week stay for her and 3 of her boys as her husband could not make it so he and eldest son remained at home.

They stayed from 7/23/40 thru 7/30/40.

Our family visited Hilltop House many times with my dad, Bert, recalling with us his memories, including planting a flag somewhere on the rock side that he scaled along with his brother who had one arm. My son took his prom date to have dinner there and I had a day after prom picnic there with my date coming from Montgomery County and now my husband and I have lived in Jefferson for 30+ years.

Joan Hale My friends and I would sit on the porch and watch the train come through the tunnel.
