Summary
Bill and Eleanor Wenner pose for a photo at a family picnic in 1938.
With the help of his stylishly-dressed wife, Bill Wenner operated two grocery stores in Brunswick--City Meat Market on W. Potomac Street and Wenner's Hill Market on N. Maple Avenue just down the hill from the family farm.
Speaking of the Wenners, Doris Kelley Barker remembered: "Love the picture of Bill Wenner and Eleanor, his lovely wife. He was a great businessman & treated the people of Brunswick wonderfully. I can still see that board in front of where he stood with all the bills there that all the railroaders would come in and pay for two weeks when they received their pay checks from the B&O RR. I also remember that my bestie, Shirley Foster hated to go & pick something up for her mother after school. Mr. Bill would whisper to her “tell your Dad he needs to come in and pay me”. Her Dad was a businessman & there was no reason why he didn’t pay his bill—he would just forget it. Shirley was so embarrassed but we would then laugh about it walking home. Great memories because we would often get on our bikes & ride there after school to pick something our mothers’ needed for supper. Great memories of businessmen in our great town, Brunswick, Md."
