The covid-19 pandemic never did abate, local schools never did reopen, and The Brunswick Citizen is not going to start publishing again. I think a small part of me still believed we would pull off that miracle up until August when, to my great surprise, we sold the building at 101 West Potomac without putting it on the market.
Selling the building was something we'd hoped to do in five or six years, though it seemed like a daunting challenge. Who could possibly want a building in downtown Brunswick, where so many storefronts are vacant? It turns out the answer a local man who intends to remodel it then lease space to one or two tenants. He takes possession on September 1, and Scott and I have spent the last month hauling off carloads of newspapers and photos and stacks of notes and folders full of great ideas for articles. Twenty years in that building, but nearly fifty years worth of newspapering.
