Carolyn Jean Hawes, 56, a loving mother and grandmother of Winchester, Virginia died Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at Winchester Medical Center. She was born May 22, 1962 in Frederick, Maryland. She was the daughter of Randolph M. Sigler of Frederick, Maryland and the late Mary Ann Hahn Sigler. Mrs. Hawes retired after 30 years as a Secretary in the Nuclear Energy Department for the U.S. Department of Energy.
She was of the Lutheran Faith. She graduated from Brunswick High School. She loved her 80's music, Washington Redskins, Eeyore and most importantly her family and grandchildren. In addition to her father she is survived by her husband of 31 years, Darrell L. Hawes, at home; daughters, Kathryn "Katie" Shew and husband Don, of Winchester and Laura Engle and husband Chris, of Ranson; grandchildren, Connor Engle and Jackson Engle; sister, Sherri K. Sigler, of Brunswick ; brother David R. Sigler and Steve Miller, of Cape Cod, Massachusetts. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at the Charles Town Presbyterian Church, 220 E. Washington St., Charles Town with the Rev. John Bethard officiating.
Interment will be private. There will be no visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 15829, Arlington, Virginia 22215 or the SPCA of Winchester and Clarke County, 111 Featherbed Lane, Winchester, Virginia 22601. Arrangements by the Melvin T.
