Brunswick: 100 Years of Memories (1990) Karn, Charles Barnard (1855-1927) Honored 1977 Charles Barnard Karn came to Brunswick about 1910 to join the firm of Jeremiah P. Karn & Bros., then owned by two of his brothers who managed the lumber yard on South Maryland Avenue. His finest design and building achievement is the Gothic stone Grace Episcopal Church on “A” Street. He is also credited with houses in the area of Delaware Avenue, “B” and “C” Streets, Brunswick’s Beth Israel synagogue (the first in Frederick County), the Reformed Church of Brunswick, and numerous homes, apartments and other buildings.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Lula V. Karn, and the following sons and daughters: Mrs. Frederick M. Cramer, Baltimore; Clarence B. Karn, Washington; Mrs.John Stickley, Washington, D.C.; G. Brisco Karn, Baltimore; Mrs. Earl T. Cate, Brunswick; Miss Evonne Karn and Louis C. Karn, both at home. Also the following brothers and sisters survive: J.P. Karn, Brunswick; M.A. Karn, Hagerstown; Wm. A. Karn, Burkittsville; Mrs. B.S. Long, Brunswick, and Mrs. Edgar Mickley, McKnightstown, Pa.

Mr. Karn has been in the contracting business as a builder in Brunswick for eighteen years. Prior to that he was employed by the Luke Pulp and Paper Mill Co, of Piedmont, W.Va, as a builder. He was highly esteemed and a progressive citizen.

The funeral took place at his late home 104 East C. St., Brunswick; interment was in Park Heights Cemetery, Brunswick.
