Summary
This is a circa 1903 photo of Clarence Reginald “Bill” Shewbridge (1900-1936) with his grandmother Sara Jane Kercheval Cole waiting for a train at the old Harpers Ferry train station.
Note the advertising sign up on Maryland Heights and the old saloon in the background.
According to Bill Shewbridge, "Young Bill is dressed as a Zouave. Union Zouave units were stationed in Harpers Ferry early in the civil war and no doubt were remembered by the older family members."
C.R. Shewbridge later worked for the B&O Railroad, married Eleanor McCormick, who worked for years at Horine's, and was the father of Jerry, Karl, Bob, Joe, and Noel Shewbridge.
