Summary

Maybe the best way to caption this hazy view of the east end Brunswick B&O yards in the early 20th century? "The Air of Smoketown"

According to Reuben Moss, based on the position of the buildings, this photo was probably taken close to City Park. "The MARC tracks today are approximately on the site of the old freight transfer yard which had a covered platform only a few tracks in to the foreground for exchanging goods between boxcars."

Phil Lowery: When remodeling our homes in the 60’s dad had the thin boards removed and coal dust was six inches thick between the walls. We were covered with coal dust when done. Mom would hang clothes on the line and go in the house and the next thing we heard the chugging, steam and engine getting louder. Mom com running out the house and took the clothes off the line.

Reuben Moss: Based on the position of the buildings this is probably taken closer to City Park than all the way at the curve. the MARC tracks today are approximately on the site of the old freight transfer yard which had a covered platform only a few tracks in to the foreground for exchanging goods between boxcars, and I would expect that it and the ice house beyond it (if I recall that was about the site of the 'pink' yardmaster's office across from the park) would have been visible in this photo if it were taken from the curve.
