Summary

The first known public school teacher in Brunswick when it was Berlin was Ellen Theresa Brady. Born in Donegal, Ireland in 1846, Miss Brady was brought by her family to this country during the great Irish famine. She taught school for 18 years before marrying William Waltman Wenner Jr., whose farm, not coincidentally was located on land where the current Brunswick Elementary School is located. You'll find out more about that later.

Miss Brady was considered a pioneer among Maryand teachers. She and her husband are buried at St.Mary's cemetery in Petersville.
