Summary
This was the original First Methodist Church at the current 7 South Maryland Avenue location. It was erected on the site of the present church in 1873.
Because the Methodist Church, actually the original church in Berlin, was built in the flood zone near the river, the congregation decided to move to higher ground. The site was purchased for $60 from Adam & Mary Ridenbaugh in 1870. For a period of time, the Lutheran, Presbyterian and Reformed denominations congregated here before building their own churches.
The structure was renovated in 1893 to include the belfry and was further enlarged around 1941.
