The son of Charles and Regina Steadman, Harold enlisted in the Maryland National Guard at age 18. He began his foreign service when his unit went to France n 1918, and participated in the Center Defensive Sector and the Meuse-Argonne offensive. Corporal Steadman died in France on October 14, 1918 of wounds received in action, less than a month before the armistice, and was buried in France. The Brunswick American Legion, Steadman-Keenan Post 96, was co-nammed for this local hero.
