Harvey E. (Sonny) Cannon (1906-1983)
Chief of the Brunswick Volunteer Fire Company for 37 years, Sonny was much more than that. He was an impresario with a great sound system, who lured big-name acts to play dances at the Fire Hall that he was the moving force in building. He also operated the movie theater across the street and was a political kingmaker.
If you wanted to get elected in Frederick County or carry the area in a statewide election, Sonny was the man to see. He drove his sound truck to small towns all over the country spreading the word for the candidates he endorsed. (Photo courtesy of BVFD)
From Facebook: Phil Lowry: you either liked Sonny or didn't like him. He yelled at people as they road by the fire hall and frequently seen sitting in front of the fire hall with the fire truck door open. Dec 13, 2012
Ray Danner Sr.: I remember Mr. Kehne's business place as Keeneye's. Spent alot of time there as a young teenager being friends with Nancy & Cameral Jr. June 10, 2013
From Facebook Aug 2016: Jana Wagoner: My mom and grandfather have told me great stories about how whenever there used to be news in Brunswick, Sonny Cannon would ride through the town and shout it through a megaphone so all of the residents would know.
JoEllen Morsberger Fisher It was pretty cool hearing the news through the megaphone. I remember Mr & Mrs Cannon very well. They were a very special part of our towns welcoming committee. No matter when or why you had come to town most likely you met the Cannon's. He was involved in or helping with everything and She was always by his side
