Mr. Howie was an engineer for the B&O. In addition to marrying prominent Brunswick leaders, Dr. Thomas Strother and Marvin Younkins, his daughters were accomplished.

Mrs. Ruth Howie Strother worked as a schoolteacher before marrying and Mrs. Younkins for years at the Bank of Brunswick on the square corner.

Smoketown History (Brunswick, Md.) My dad said Ruth Howie taught him in school. Without having seen this, he remembered her as beautiful, which she sure was....Peter

John Younkins: She also taught Dr Fred Brown who Became Superintendent of Frederick Cnty Schools and Freemason of Brunswick Lodge 191 and her brother my uncle Jim Howie who was also a Freemason.
