Imperial Theater, W. Potomac St - late 1940s Operated by Cook Cannon and then his Brother Fire Chief Sonny Cannon who closed it in 1962. In the photo are Sonny and Jackie Porter.

The "moving picture house" dates back over 100 years ago. It was originally owned and operated by one-time Brunswick postmaster, Frank L. Spitzer and later by Herb Goldberg, who featured "Uncle Herb's Club" every Saturday afternoon in the late 1940s/50s.. There were drawings for free tickets and other prizes.

Ann Griffis: My daddy took me to the 15 cent Saturday matinees every week. I loved the serials they had too. And they had tables out in front then to put your name in for a drawing they had every Saturday. Never knew if my dad won any money at the theater.

Donna Mattson: I saw my first movie ever there, Roy Rogers and Dale Evans in "Don't Fence Me In."

Ruth E. Kennedy: My first move I saw was "Lassie Come Home. I was four. 75 years ago.

Pamela Compher: Loved that place, held hands with my first "crush" there and can't forget Mills' next door for a college ice after the show. What happy memories.

Patricia Moore Snoots: The Imperial is where you would go to meet and sit with your school friends and dates! Before the movie we would go to Mill's Drug Store and buy our 6 cent coke or 6 cent ice cream cone and top it off with our 5 cent bag of chips. Sometimes they would even have Talent Contest there at the theater. They were the good old days!!
