Summary

The members and advisor of the Latin Club.

In hope of understanding the relationship between Roman Times and today, a group of students in the Latin class decided to pursue this goal by becoming members of the BHS Latin Club.

The Roman Empire was founded when Augustus Caesar proclaimed himself the first emperor of Rome in 31 BC and lasted for some 500 years.

Members of the club played games such as Scrabble to incorporate knowledge of derivatives (words derived from another or from a root in the same or another language) and to give them practice for the vocabulary section of the SAT’s.

Andrea Oland commented that “The games we play help us learn about the culture.”

Along the same line, Advisor Elaine Lightener commented “Our goal is to do some activities that we don’t have time to do in class and to have fun with the culture.”

One of the activities the club was planning for was a trip to Europe and Rome for the summer.
