Summary

Lavetta Kelley Thomas (right) was the first operator on the Brunswick telephone exchange, which in the early days was a party line for up to 12 households. The urge to listen in on other people's conversations was pretty strong in Brunswick as in most communities. No conversation was safe.

Mrs. Thomas lived to the ripe old age of 103.
