Mrs. Mary Johnson


Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Johnson, 73, of 1100 Peach Orchard Lane, Brunswick, died Friday, Jan. 5, at Frederick Health Care Center.

She was the wife of the late Robert Campbell Jr., her first husband; and the late Wilbur Johnson, her second husband.

Born July 11, 1927, in Brunswick, she was a daughter of the late Tanneyhill Sr. and Agnes Louise Griffin Monroe.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and Catholic Daughters in Petersville.

She was a member and president of the Ladies Auxiliary of Steadman-Keenan American Legion Post 96; president of Peach Orchard Club Ladies Auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign Wars; and member of Brunswick Ambulance Auxiliary, Brunswick Museum and Brunswick Senior Citizens. In 1992 she was Brunswick's Honored Citizen.

She volunteered at Veterans Medical Center at Martinsburg, W.Va., Frederick Health Care Center and Brunswick House.

She is survived by a daughter, Glenda Morris and husband William of Brunswick; a son, Clayton Campbell Sr. of Fredericksburg, Va.; three sisters, Virginia Campbell of Brunswick, and Julia Gregory and Margaret James, both of Brooklyn, N.Y.; four grandchildren, Catina Morris of Laurel, Claytonia Campbell, Patricia Campbell and Clayton Campbell Jr., all of Gaithersburg; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She will also be remembered by friends Clarice Henderson, Margaret Jane Tittiger, Betty Murray and Elizabeth Giles.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Louise Monroe and Helen Monroe; and four brothers, Griffin Monroe, Edward Monroe, Tanneyhill Monroe Jr. and Joseph Monroe.

The family will receive friends at John T. Williams Funeral Home, 100 Petersville Road, Brunswick, on Tuesday, Jan. 9, from 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral home will be open Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, Jan. 10, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Petersville. The Rev. Lawrence J. Gesy will be the celebrant.

Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick
