Museum Receives Donation of Rare C&O Canal Photo
On Friday, July 2, 2021, the Brunswick Heritage Museum welcomed a donation of a rare ca.1917 image of the C&O Canal in Brunswick. Donated by Dr. Thomas Dilamarter of East Aurora, New York, in memory of his aunt, Judith Patricia Ellenburg, the image was discovered in a larger collection of glass slides of the B&O Railroad and shows a view of the C&O Canal looking down from the bridge onto the Lock 30 area. The framed photo is currently the focal point of the Museum’s special exhibit commemorating the 50th anniversary of the C&O Canal National Historical Park, and will become a part of the Museum’s permanent displayed collection. The special Canal exhibit is on display through December 2021. The Museum is open Saturday 10-4 and Sunday 1-4. Admission is always free, and donations are welcome. Pictured here is Dr. Dilamarter (left) presenting a rare photo to Museum President James R. Castle (Right).
