Summary

n 1998 the BHS Yearbook was dedicated to Kay Tucker a secretary who served in both the Guidance Office and then later in the Front Office. As any teacher who has been in the profession for long knows that secretaries along with others help make running the school go smoothly. Being on their good side makes the life of a classroom teacher so much easier. BHS for had some great secretaries manning these positions and I cannot count the number of times the secretaries in the front office, the Guidance office, and in the library helped me out both as a teacher and as Department Chair for Social Studies. Kay Tucker was one of the nicest persons I have ever had the honor to know and she always seemed to have a smile on her face. She was friendly to all who walked into the office she was working in and her sweetness was so great I had to shoot up extra insulin just to talk with her for a few minutes (just kidding about that last part.) In all my years working with her I don't think I ever saw her get angry or cross with anyone, although there were some who certainly didn't desired it. She was polite to all and well mannered with everyone a trait she passed on to her two children Keith and Leah both of whom attended Brunswick. In the yearbook. Principal Melvin Whitfield's dedication to Kay written under her picture reads - "Every school has a person that when you think of that school, you think of that person. Kay Tucker's image always comes to mind when one thinks of Brunswick High School." "Kay thoroughly understood the responsibilities of her position; everything from managing the finances to the proper way to greet a visitor, a parent, a student or a colleague." "Everyone who knew Kay understood her love and devotion to BHS. Kay understood that her position was to serve others and she did that above all other aspects of her job. Kay was a great ambassador, always projecting a positive image of the school and the community. We will miss her." Seeing Kay's smile at the start of the day, and throughout the day always made my school day better.
