Summary

This photo from the 2003 Yearbook is of Brenda House who worked at the school in the capacity as a "jack of all trades." She transcribed school materials into Braille for students who were blind, served as a secretary in several different offices, provided instructional assistance in various classrooms, and often provided class coverage when a teacher was out and no substitute could be procured or if a coach had to leave early for an away game. If Brenda heard anyone talk about any kind of difficulty they were having, the first words out of her mouth were "How can I be of assistance?" Brenda was one of the nicest person I had ever known who always had a smile for everyone and lived by Thumper's rule that "If you can't say something nice, don't say nothing at all." In the many years I worked with her, I never heard her say a harsh word about any one, be they a student, teacher, or staff member. Brenda treated everyone with respect and kindness. Brenda had a strong Christian faith and she served as an example of how people should treat others. Her faith was one of love and joy for all no matter who they were or what they had done. On a personal note, she helped me the first year I started teaching AP Psychology. Brenda heard me talking one day in the library about my concerns about teaching this course and she told me that her daughter had taken the AP course over at Middletown. She brought me a box full of materials her daughter had from the course. By looking through them I was able to upgrade by general Psychology notes to the level required for my students to be successful for the AP Psychology Exam. Brenda was truly a person who was "one in a million," and all who came in contact with her benefited by knowing her.
