Summary

Sonny Cannon's sound truck ready to spread the news in Brunswick about FDR's local Democratic ticket in 1940. See the Gross store in the background on the right.

George Radcliffe from Cambridge represented Maryland in the U.S. Senate from 1935-1947.

Frederick County's Congressman Bill Byron was tragically killed in an airplane crash in Georgia on February 27, 1941. His widow, Katharine Byron, a granddaughter of U.S. Senator Louis E. McComas, was elected in a special election to complete her husband's term of office.

Ironically, the Byron's son Goodloe was later elected to his parents' seat and was succeeded by his widow Beverly after he died at age 49 running along the C&O Canal. Sonny Cannon was a long time supporter and friend of the Byron family.
