Summary

This photo is from the 1998 Yearbook and shows the members of the Spanish Club. At the time BHS not only had a Spanish club, but also French and Latin Clubs. A large number of BHS students participated in the various foreign language clubs because as Spanish teacher Mr. Eskuchen stated for the yearbook these clubs allowed students "to use the language in a test free, pressure free environment." As former student Lynette Rudy expressed in the yearbook "Knowing another language helps you in more ways than just giving you your credits for graduation. When you apply for jobs and the manager sees that you have better qualifications …. I know from personal experience that I've been hired over other people because I have taken Spanish …." His point about knowing Spanish and jobs is growing even truer today as the Hispanic population continues to grow in America. One of the days that I and many on the faculty loved was when the Spanish Club / Classes under the direction of Lou Eskuchen had their annual Spanish luncheon. It was a treat to sample the variety of Spanish dishes the students prepared for consumption.
