Summary

Another longtime Brunswick High teacher who touched generations was Mrs. Dorothy U. Strathern. During the 1969-70 school year, she was guidance counsellor.

What did she teach at BHS before this role late in her career?

Bettybill Margrabe: I think Mrs. Strathern was guidance counselor during the 1965-1966 school year. She wrote a polished and persuasive letter of recommendation for me when I applied to The Johns Hopkins University in 1966.

Anne Zumbach: I thought she was an English teacher. When she retired from BHS, she went to Prospect Hall as a guidance person--loved working with her!! She had great stories--like when she got married she had to go before the BOE to get permission to continue teaching--maybe her and Mildred cox did that. And she shared the idea that a sick day could also be a mental health day as well as physical illness.
