Summary

This photo is from the 1991 BHS Yearbook which was dedicated to Eileen Leslie one of the business teachers. Eileen first started at Brunswick High in 1965 when the school first opened at its location on Cummings Drive. One of the clubs she supervised was the Future Business Leaders of America and as all who knew her she was all business when it came to the FBLA and her classroom instruction. In 1990, Eileen received the Vocational Teacher of the Year Award. During her tenure as advisor to FBLA, Brunswick students received much recognition in state, regional, and national competitions. Twenty students had won state competitions while eight received awards at the national level. Two stories I remember about Eileen are how she took one of the biggest male trouble makers in school at the time and taught him how to type, which he took to like a duck takes to water. While others had a hard time with this male student's behavior in class, he towed the line when he was in Eileen's typing class. The other story is how Eileen during her first period planning time would often call students at home when they didn't show up for school and tell them to get their "ass out of bed" and get to school. Of course Eileen was too much of a lady to use the word "ass." Eileen often ate lunch with the Social Studies crew. While at times our conversations were rather bawdy and risqué, I always got a great kick of seeing a small smile come to Eileen's face sometimes when somebody told a funny naughty joke.
