Summary

This photo is from 1983 and shows the members of the History Departments at both the Brunswick High and Middle Schools. If I remember correctly, at that time Ed, Mike, Jack, and I taught HS social studies, while Alan and Chuck were at the MS level. At the time, both the middle school and the high school occupied the same building that now is just BHS. We were an eclectic group of teachers with some us of more lecture oriented, while others were more student centered learning or what became known as “cooperative learning.” We often joked among ourselves that it was actually “cooperative cheating.” Chuck along with his side kick math teacher Rick Wisner became known for their performances as the “Blues Bothers” at middle school dances. The two put on an amazing performance as the Blues Brothers. Jack, Ed, Alan, and I are now all retired, but once Mike left Brunswick I lost track of him so I’m not sure if he continued in teaching or moved on to other things. Unfortunately as most of you know, Chuck died in his sleep while he was still teaching at the middle school. One year when I was the Department Chair, I will never forget a particular incident I was brought into concerning Mike. He claimed to have some “psyche” abilities. He would sometimes demonstrate his powers to his students by holding an object of theirs in his hands and tell them something that they had not previously revealed to Mike. The students seem to get a kick out this, but it all came crashing to a halt after a parent complained to the administration that Mike might be using his powers to watch their daughter naked in the shower. Needless to say, Mike was told that he could no longer demonstrate his powers in the classroom and as department chair I was told to keep an eye on him to make sure he didn’t – which I did using my all powerful third-eye ;=)!
