November 11, 2017 Veteran's Day Observance
The American Legion, Steadman-Keenan Post 96 family honored all Veterans today at Memorial Park.
Frederick County Commander Mike Kozicki opened the ceremony and Rev. Linda Hernandez gave the invocation followed by the tolling of church bells. Post 96 1st Vice Commander Pam Holzman led the Pledge of Allegiance. Post 96 Auxiliary President Andrea Anderson spoke of the history of Veteran's Day.
Post 96 Adjutant Curtis Leonard introduced the guest speakers Mayor Jeff Snoots, Rick Weldon and David Vogt. Post Chaplain Bob Dozier held a "Moment of Silence" and the closing benediction.
An Honor Guard Salute was given by Post 96 Honor Guards, Commander David House, ALR Director Rick Fuss, ALR Chaplain Bob Ward and Legionaire Tim Wilson. The ceremony closed with Auxiliary Sgt. at Arms Connie House playing Taps on the bugle.
"Veterans' Day isn't just a day for Veterans", said Andrea Anderson. "It's a day for all Americans. It's a day to remember why they served and fought. It's a day for all of us to ensure that our future generations will remember and honor those who served our country. While November 11th is the official holiday to remember our veterans, let's not forget to keep honoring them each day as we live in the freedom they protected."
