Ray Danner Sr: I remember crossing on that old wooden bridge. It was quite an experience to look down and be able to see the river below through the spaces between the wooden roadway.
The walls of the lock are still there and the tow path is used on a regular basis. The tow path belongs to the park service now and has been completely restored. You can ride a canal boat down at Great Falls, Md. They have a working lock and the canal boat is pulled by horses or mules. The towpath is used mostly by bicyclits, a few horse back riders and hikers... Nancy Merchant Langley
