Summary

Dr. Charlie Pruitt administering the first polio shots at Brunswick Elementary School. Great juxtaposition of the 2 girls getting their shots. We believe this was 1954, but could've been later.

Mrs. Blessing and Mrs. Roelke were the nurses pictured. Looks like Mrs. Frances Manuel readying the needle in the 2nd shot, but not sure.

Donna Mattson: I remember standing in line outside the school to get my polio shot.

Smoketown History (Brunswick, Md.) My shot was given at the Moose Club in Brunswick. The Health Dept use to have a women's clinic upstairs on certain days of the month. The area was also used for giving shots. Everyone lined up in a row getting more scared by the minute. You had to watch as everyone else was getting shots and yelling or crying.
