PAUL HARRIS FELLOW AWARD PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS, Karin B. Tome is a Charter Member of the Rotary Club of Smoketown, Brunswick, Maryland, and was a driving force in the chartering of the Rotary Club, re-establishing a Rotary presence in Brunswick after a twenty-five year hiatus, and WHEREAS, Karin B. Tome has served with honor as Club Treasurer, since the club’s inception, tirelessly advocating for Rotary in the community, and WHEREAS, Karin B. Tome has embraced the Rotary motto - “Service Above Self” - offering enthusiastic volunteer leadership and service in club and district activities, giving life to the Rotary brand - “People of Action”, and WHEREAS, Karin B. Tome has channeled her passion for protecting the environment by serving on the Rotary International District 7620 Environmental Committee, planting trees with Streamlink and the City of Brunswick, managing the Lunch Out Of Landfills program in local public schools, and volunteering in the Mobile Science Lab at Brunswick Elementary School, and WHEREAS, Karin B. Tome is relocating her residence to Pennsylvania, leaving behind a laudable legacy of civic engagement and public service, NOW, THEREFORE, The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International names Karin B. Tome a PAUL HARRIS FELLOW, in appreciation of tangible and significant assistance given for the furtherance of better understanding and friendly relations among people of the world. The Paul Harris Fellow Award, named for the Founder of Rotary International, is presented to an individual who embodies the character traits expressed in the Rotary motto - “Service Above Self”. A $1,000 contribution to The Rotary Foundation has been made in Karin Tome's honor. The mission of The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International is to enable Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty. Photo taken in front of the Brunswick River Mural on the Horine Building, an example of Trompe-l'œil , an art technique that uses realistic imagery to create the optical illusion that the depicted objects exist in three dimensions. The mural was dedicated in 2015, when Karin Tome served as Mayor of the City of Brunswick.
